Create Deployment Work Item

PURPOSE

The purpose of this activity is to provide guidance on how to monitor and control deployments as they transition to operations and support.

WHEN

  • After the Sprint Review.

PARTICIPATING ROLES

ENTRY CRITERIA

Product Owner has confirmed if features, user stories and/or bugs the team asserted as done are complete

SUB-ACTIVITIES

  1. Determine how the validated work from the sprint is going to be allocated to one or many deployments.

  2. Create a Deployment Work Item (DWI) using a product backlog work item (E.g. user story, feature or Epic) to capture the following attributes

    • Deployment name

    • Type of deployment (app vs data)

    • Link to work items contained within the build to the DWI.

    • Location of the build being deployed. It may be attached to the DWI.

    • Installation instructions.

    • Rollback instructions.

    • Known risks or additional notes

      Note

      If a deployment board doesn’t already exist create one using Azure DevOps to capture the deployment lifecycle throughout the Deployment Enclave (I.e environments hosted within InnovaSystems) and Production Enclave (I.e customer environments)

  3. Monitor the progress of the deployment using an Azure DevOps board.

OUTPUTS

  • Deployment Work Item

EXIT CRITERIA

  • Deployment work item has been approved targeting the customer environment.
